What Happens After The Princess And The Frog?

Sat May 30, 2009, 3:31 PM
Hey guys, just little old me again. ;p As you all know, I'm still pretty excited about the newest Disney Princess, Tiana, coming out December 11th in The Princess And The Frog. But it also got me thinking...when Princess And The Frog comes out, what happens after that? What other 2D animation movie should Disney be working on after the success of Princess And The Frog? Yes, I do know the next Princess movie coming out is Rapunzel: Unbraided, but THAT will be CG. I'm talking about AFTER her. Will there be another 2D animation? Surely Tiana's success bring back the "Golden Age" of Disney's 2D animation! :D Admittedly, over the past recent years, Disney hasn't exactly turned out great classics, with bombs like "Home On The Range" and "Treasure Island", but I still have faith in them.:thanks: Hopefully this will bring in a new Golden age.

So after thinking about it, I've come up with some ideas for stories that Disney can do in the upcoming years, and I'd love to know what you all think. Okay, first up...Amaterasu And Susanoo, about a Japanese goddess who is in constrant strive with her conniving brother, Susanoo. With Disney's second Black or "colored" princess (yes, I'll always consider Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire to be the first "colored" princess), I think it would be very good idea to continue to diversify their Disney Princess line. A first start would be to include a Japanese princess, since we already sort of have a Chinese princess through Mulan. Amaterasu is an amazing goddess with a very interesting story, and you can check out more on her here:

Another story that Disney can animate is one of the epics from India in their Hindu mythology. I think Disney can do very well with a Hindu Indian princess too! :D There's plenty of stories they can use, and you can check them out here:

I LOVE India and it's culture! It's just so rich and deep and...spiritual. I'd love to see a story from them one day.

Up next is a story that I hold very dear to my heart. It's The Snow Queen. Ever since I could remember, I loved this story....it's deep meaning, it's characters...everything. Not to mention the Snow Queen really scared me. ^^; Yes, I do know that BBC did a 2005 movie version, and there was a 1957 animated version, but it would be such a thrill to see Disney put their spin on it. I'd definitely be excited for that. For those of you not familiar with the story, you can check it out here:

And last but not least, another story I'd LOVE for Disney to do is Rumplestilskin. Nobody can tell me they've never heard of this heartwarming tale of a mother's love and a father's pride. It's a lovely tale of what can happen if you boast too much. You can check it out here:

And those are my picks. If anyone has any other suggestions on what other stories they can do 2D films on, don't be shy...share them with me! :D

Okay, now that's over with, I do have a bit of movie reviews!! :excited: I got to see Star Trek, which centers on the younger years of the original cast of the beloved 1960's show of the same name...Star Trek. I have to say, this movie really surprised me. I'm not a very big Star Trek fan (I more follow Star Wars), so I was prepared to be bored to tears, despite my curiosity to see it, and...it didn't. It was very well acted, and the new actors playing the well known characters had the rolls down pat. I enjoyed the new spin on the dashing James T. Kirk, who in his younger years was a trouble-making, womanizing rouge. You would never guess that. ;p Spock...one of my fave characters, was artfully done and showed that even with all the logic in the world, you must always still have heart and belief...even in the most dire of situations. Uhuru...what could I say, she was the coolest, and I LOVED the actress who played her. :aww: There was a romance in there that I NEVER saw coming, and all I can say is...WHAA HOOO! :D :giggle: You'll have to see it to know what I mean. Sulu really kicked some major butt in the movie, and Scottie...he was as lovable as ever. :giggle: In all, pretty amazing movie. :thanks:

Next up is Terminator: Salvation. Now it's been quite a while since I've seen the other Terminator movies, so I don't know if I can say if this was better or worse than the others, but...it was certainly interesting. It started off pretty strong..perhaps a little TOO strong. It was kind of hard to follow, but as the movie went along, you kind of got it. The new John Conner...I can he was a lot more hard core than in previous movies, which I can understand in the world he lives in years in the future. I was glad that there wasn't too much cut and editing, and the scenes were pretty much smooth and ongoing. Not too much graphics either, which made it more relatable. You really had a sense of desperation from the characters, and you see what toll the war has on everyone. I enjoyed it..but I'm not sure if it was better than the first ones. Of course, there's a AWESOME cameo there that if you use your imagination, you'll know who it is. ;)

That's about it for now. I'll definitely be back with more reviews and movie previews. And if you're keeping up with The Princess And The Frog, the official website has been updated. Check it out:

I think a Disney version Rumpelstiltskin would be AWESOME. I love india's culture too and I remember the movies a Little Princess and Secret Garden had girls who had lived in India (no i never read the books, I want to though!)

Also I tink Amaterasu has a great story that could turn into a very creative idea and be a very inventive movie especially with all this 3D stuff coming out into theatres now.

I think next they are working on something called the Bear and the Bow...? But I don't know if that was a Pixar idea they never went through with or what. I saw it on a blog lol. But it looked like a folk tale type of story and animation.

I hope they do more 2D animation. I can't wait for this movie.
:iconthedansemacabre:
oh I also meant to say I can't wait because i loved the Princess and the Frog story when I was a kid, and the Snowqueen. I've also never been to New Orleans but I'd love to visit someday. Ok now I'm done rambling lol

Nice to hear form you again. :D Well, when you think about it, Disney seem to be getting bit too obsessed with "princess" stuff. ^^; For example, Belle was made a princess in Kingdom Hearts games when she's not really a princess. Then Mulan ended up as a "princess" just to make money on selling princess stuff to little girls.
2D animation is a dying art, and the at of clay animation already went extinct.

I do want to see Star Trek movie but I'm waiting for DVD as always. ^^; Star Trek movie is sort of "Starting over" the overall story of Star Trek so there were some differences. That did pissed off some hardcore Star Trek fans, but whatever.
Ah, during my peak interest in Star Trek, I did meet with the original actress of Uhura and obtained her autograph. :aww: I remember that there was an interesting story about how that actress was recruit to play Uhura. I forgot the exact details. ^^;

Have fun! :D

I always liked the Snow Queen story, too :D :XD: My favourite fairytale of all time is probably "Beauty and the Beast," but there are so many good ones Disney has yet to do. I would  to see "The Princess and the Pea" or "The Goose Girl" Disneyfied!!!!

I also think that they could do a Polish princess - there's a story about a fisherman who falls in love with a mermaid named Sawa. His name is Warsz. The two become the founders of the city of Warszawa, or Warsaw - the capital of Poland. And a mermaid holding a sword becomes an important Polish symbol.

I looked for Dutch folklore to find story ideas, but most are tragedies; with the netherlands being flooded (some after mistreating a mermaid!). One that could be intresting, is the Lady of Stavoren: [link] . Oh, and this character you probably know: [link] ; but then in a totally different setting and with black hair and all... But other than that... the Netherlands has not much intresting stories people can turn into a Disney Classic without slaughtering the original

i would LOVE snow queen to be done. its one of my all time favorites. i think that they're changing rapunzel to be 2d tho, ne? they were doing cg but then the story got scrapped, because rapunzel WAS supposed to come out before princess and frog, and now that one is coming out.

Oh really? I didn't know that, I'll have to look it up. :thanks: But yes, I loved Snow Queen too. :aww: Definitely a good choice for Disney.
:iconrose74:
Oh, I think I've read about that already...the Lady Of Stavoren! She got cursed because even though she was rich, she still wanted more and more, right? Yes, that could be good for Disney. Although they may chance the ending...like they do with EVERY story.
:iconrose74:
Well, I think that would be a bit too much like The Little Mermaid already, but...it's cute. :aww: I met a teacher from Poland, and I just LOVE her accent! :excited:
